Rivers of WHAT?????
We were told that the tail end of a storm from Fiji was about to hit Northland. On Monday night we could feel a change in the air and it started to rain as we went to bed - which was actually OK cause its good to lie in bed listening to the rain hitting the canvas.
Tuesday was dismal and we decided to pack as much in as we did (see above) and we went out on the bay to see the islands. That night however as we got back, the storm started to brew and it was thundering and lightning by 7pm - it actually let up about 9ish and we sat out for a bit.
On Wednesday morning however we were both awakened by rain like we have never experienced before - we couldn't hear each other speaking in the tent - we had to shout at each other. To add to the noise - its started thundering. This went on for 6 hours!!!
The rain was so bad - our tent started to 'float'. In the end we had no choice but to make a run for it as the 'water' was coming over the zips at the tent doors. What we didn't realise though was that the sewer had burst and it wasn't rainwater that we were padding through - it was raw sewerage!! Here's the piccies - enjoy...........
This is the campsite shortly after the first 'blast'
It let up for a bit and we were able to sit out and have a wee wine - but we could hear the storm rumbling in the background.
And this is what we woke up to - the 'water' was running through the seals in the tent!!
And here is where most of the 'water'was coming from. Poo - what's that smell????
This is us abandoning our newly purchased and much loved tent. It was impossible to take it down mostly for health reasons. We asked the campsite if we could leave it there for a few days but we don't think there will be much point in trying to salvage it as the poo was right up inside of the walls - YAK!!

No doubt you are sewering the campsite for the cost of a new tent, travelling expenses, emotional trauma and wasted time off work ?
